WTW, the global advisory, broking and solutions company, has acquired Redefind, a technology platform focused on improving access to insurance products for the cryptocurrency and digital asset sector.
The acquisition forms part of WTW’s wider strategy to develop insurance and risk management solutions for clients operating in emerging areas of digital finance. The company said the move supports its ambition to broaden its capabilities in serving organisations and individuals exposed to risks associated with digital assets, crypto markets and tokenised financial ecosystems.
Redefind has developed a web-based platform designed to provide access to insurance products tailored to the digital asset market. Through the acquisition, WTW plans to build on the platform’s existing capabilities and support its future development.
WTW said the initial proposition will be launched as a non-custodial insurance product focused on recovery costs following the theft or loss of digital assets. The cover is intended to assist policyholders with expenses linked to forensic investigations, asset tracing activities and legal processes aimed at recovering stolen holdings.
The transaction also sees Redefind founders Richard Daws and Connor Edward join Willis, WTW’s specialist risk advisory and broking business. WTW said the pair will help drive the continued development of the platform as it seeks to expand its reach and product offering.
The service is expected to launch first in the UK, with WTW outlining plans for broader geographic expansion and the introduction of additional products over time.
Commenting on the acquisition, Alastair Swift, Head of Global Specialties at Willis, said: “As digital assets continue to move further into the mainstream, demand for credible regulated protection solutions is increasing. Through this investment, WTW is taking a leading position to shape the future of risk transfer and protection in the digital economy.
“We are committed to supporting clients in navigating emerging financial and technology risks and to delivering trusted, regulated solutions backed by our global insurance expertise.”
Anthony Borgman, Head of GB Affinity at Willis, said the acquisition supports WTW’s longer-term ambitions in the digital asset market. “We are delighted to have acquired Redefind and welcome its founders to WTW. Under Richard’s stewardship the business will continue to evolve with support from WTW’s Affinity practice and for wider distribution.
“This marks an important milestone in WTW’s broader digital strategy, providing a foundation to expand our capabilities in digital asset protection and crypto insurance.”
WTW noted the acquisition provides a basis for further investment in digital asset protection solutions as demand grows for insurance products addressing risks within the rapidly developing digital finance sector.
